At Easter time, who doesn’t love making nest cakes with the kiddies. These simple cereal based treats are very simple to make and takes me back to my childhood making these with my Mum and brothers. I now make these with my own daughter, its a great Easter activity to do with the children.
I used a varied selection of chocolate eggs to use as fillings for the nests, and I used Milka chocolate simply because it was on offer in the supermarket, however any chocolate will do.
Shredded Wheat Easter Nests (will make 8 cakes)
Ingredients
200g Milk Chocolate
4 Large Shredded Wheat
Method
Melt your chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering hot water. If making with children, its important the adult does this. Once the chocolate has completely melted, remove from the pan and place the bowl on the side on top of a tea towel. Get the children to break up the Shredded Wheat into the chocolate and stir until all the cereal is covered in chocolate.
Scoop your mixture into some baking cases and using the back of the spoon, make a dip in the middle and pop in three mini eggs. Your shredded wheat nest cakes are now made. Leave them for an hour for the chocolate to set and then enjoy.
Rice Krispies Easter Nests (will make 12 cakes)
Ingredients
200g Milk Chocolate
70g Rice Krispies
Method
The method is exactly the same as above for the Shredded Wheat cakes.
Corn Flake Easter Nests (will make 10 cakes)
Ingredients
200g Milk Chocolate
70g Corn Flakes
Method
The method is exactly the same again as above for the Shredded Wheat and Rice Krispie cakes.
My favourite ones are the Shredded Wheat ones, but thought id show you the selection of what you can make. These are yummy and the kiddies will love making them. See if you can get them to actually put the mini eggs into the nest cakes, I think my daughter ate as many eggs whilst making these then she did putting into the nest cakes. Give them a go and enjoy!
